The estimated increase in capital spending needed to reach net-zero emissions in the next 30 years
McKinsey (March, 2022).
The proportion of people who believe climate change poses a major risk to their business.
World Economic Forum (February, 2022).
Duration: 6 weeks (excluding orientation)
As the impacts of climate change become clearer, companies are recognising the need to build resilience to the risks it creates. To achieve this, organisations require professionals with the skills to navigate complex concepts such as greenwashing, sustainability, net zero and circularity.
Economist Education’s online course, Climate Change and Business: Sustainability, Risk and the Push for Net Zero, provides you with the knowledge and tools to develop effective, climate-conscious strategies. Using real-world case studies, you will examine social and environmental issues affecting businesses, and explore the science and economics of climate change. Industry leaders will guide you in analysing the pitfalls and opportunities involved in creating a corporate decarbonisation strategy while also reflecting on the considerations and limitations of environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing. Upon completion, you will be able to make informed decisions regarding climate change, and possess a practical understanding of the tools used to measure, reduce and offset carbon emissions.
Is this course for you?
The course is tailored to meet the needs of senior executives across a range of roles and sectors aiming to grasp climate change’s impacts for their business. They will also learn how to implement a carbon-management approach. This course is suitable, too, for professionals in “green-collar” positions who want to enhance their ability to implement climate action plans at their organisations.
This course is certified by the United Kingdom CPD Certification Service, and may be applicable to individuals who are members of, or are associated with, UK-based professional bodies. The course has an estimated 50 hours of learning.
Note: should students wish to claim CPD activity, the onus is upon them. Economist Education and GetSmarter accept no responsibility, and cannot be held responsible, for the claiming or validation of hours or points.
