Meet Elisma Lombard | GetSmarter Notable Achiever
In recognition of students who stand out from the crowd, GetSmarter’s Notable Achievers campaign highlights a top-performing student each week.
Elisma was chosen by our Student Success Team for her clear and concise assignment achievements so far on the University of Cape Town Business Systems Analysis online short course.
Here’s what she had to say about her experience:
Why did you decide to take the UCT online short course?
I saw the UCT Business Systems Analysis online short course advertisement on Facebook and thought that it would broaden my limited BSA knowledge, and greatly compliment my current role as a systems analyst. This would directly benefit my employer whilst also improving my own marketability.
What were your concerns before enrolling on the UCT Operations Management course? How have your concerns been alleviated and why?
My main concern was not having enough time to complete the weekly assignments, but with all the time management tips and motivations this has not been the case. And the fact that the course content is clear and structured has really helped a lot.
What aspects are you enjoying about learning online with GetSmarter?
I enjoy the flexibility of the course, as I can easily plan and schedule the weekly assignments into my own time as long as I reach the deadlines.
How do you plan to use the skills you have learnt on this course, in your career?
I plan to apply all the skills I’ve learnt to improve the quality of my work especially in eliciting and specifying requirements.
What does it mean to you to earn a UCT certificate?
Having earned a UCT certificate would firstly attest to my abilities and understanding of the subject matter, because of the reputation and standards UCT holds. And secondly, it has given me a major marketable advantage for when I will be compared to others.
Will you be displaying your certificate?
I will definitely display my certificate! I’ll be very proud to show off my achievements especially having gone through it all in my spare time, whilst being a wife and a mother of two small children. That in itself already makes me very proud.
Our Student Success Team identified you as being an outstanding student. Why do you think you are a Notable Achiever and what advice can you give to others looking to do this course?
It is a great honour to have been identified as a Notable Achiever, and although it is definitely not always easy, I found that by giving myself a goal, and committing to it, I get through each week. My advice to others would be to stay focused and to give yourself enough time to study, don’t leave it until the last minute.
