Belinda was chosen by our Student Success Team for committing to the UCT Business Systems Analysis online short course. Despite wanting to defer in the beginning of this notoriously difficult course, Belinda achieved a distinction for the course.
Here’s what she has to say about her experience:
Why did you decide to take the UCT online short course?
I’ve had certain Business Analysis experience on a project and felt that it would be beneficial to my career to broaden my knowledge. Coming from a finance background and having an interest in IT the short course suited my needs perfectly.
What were your concerns before enrolling on the UCT Business System Analysis online short course? How were your concerns alleviated and why?
I was concerned about fitting the course into my already busy schedule. Halfway through the course, I began a new contract where I was working long hours. I communicated this with my Success Manager, Megan. She was very supportive and helpful. This course helped me to improve my time management skills as well.
What aspects are you enjoying about learning online with GetSmarter?
I enjoyed GetSmarter’s online learning environment. They combined different methods of learning like video tutorials, written notes and the online small group discussions. I found it very useful that the assignment content not only ensured an understanding of the module covered but also required me to apply the knowledge I’ve learnt.
How do you plan to use the skills you learned on this course in your career?
Since completing the course I’ve gotten a full-time job that combines my finance background and IT experience. The course has helped me feel more equipped to pursue this new career direction.
What does it mean to you to earn a UCT certificate?
I’m very proud to earn a UCT certificate.
Having obtained my degree and a postgraduate degree from UCT I know that its standards are high and it has a good reputation.

Our Student Success Team identified you as being an outstanding student. Why do you think you are a Notable Achiever and what advice can you give to others looking to do this course?
I think that despite my heavy workload during the course I managed my time well and worked consistently. My advice to others doing the course would be to manage your time well and have a balance between work, studying and leisure time.
