Model Behavior: The Fashion Influencer Turned Sustainability Activist
Arizona Muse has graced the covers of glossy fashion magazines, walked the runways of top designers, and fronted ad campaigns for the world’s biggest beauty brands. But it’s her newest role as a sustainability crusader that’s making the real impact. Her Instagram bio sums her up: “We are in a Climate Crisis. I’m educating myself about the solutions available and sharing what I learn right here 🌍.”
Arizona’s sustainability journey started when she went to a charity lunch about biodiversity. She explains that she was shocked that people weren’t talking more about the climate crisis.1 She later enrolled in the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) Business Sustainability Management online short course, which helped her prepare for the shift from fashion model to activist.
“I started modeling as a teenager so I didn’t go to university, and taking this course from Cambridge — which is undeniably rigorous — was an amazing validation for me on my own learning journey, that I was going in the right direction,” Arizona explained to Forbes magazine.2
Geared towards working professionals who seek to drive social, economic, and environmental sustainability within their organization, the eight-week CISL online course offered Arizona the opportunity to advance her education while balancing the demands of motherhood (she had just had her second child) and her career.
Arizona now works as a sustainability consultant for brands like SKIIM Paris, a consciously sourced leather and suede fashion label, and she’s the founder of Dirt Charity: Foundation for the Regeneration of Earth,3 which looks at reviving soil for biodynamic farming.
“I work with clients to achieve the highest standard of sustainability. I’ve made a promise to Planet Earth that I will always do everything I can to ensure a healthy future for the environment,” she says.4
