Course overview
The percentage of organisational data that is held in the form of text documents, including reports, web pages, emails, and call-centre notes.
IBM (Jun, 2021).
The predicted size of the global text analytics market by 2026, progressing at a compound annual growth rate of 17.8%.
GlobeNewswire (Jul, 2021).
Duration: 8 weeks (excluding orientation)
In today's business world, generating large amounts of textual information or data through marketing, reporting, and customer interactions via social media and email is common. Text analysis, a subset of data science, allows organisations to quantify this data, identify trends and priority areas, and gain competitive insights using machine learning.
The Data Science: Text Analysis Using R online certificate course from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) equips you with a practical skill set for conducting effective text mining from start to finish. Guided by industry expert Professor Kenneth Benoit, you’ll learn how to prepare raw data, categorise it using clustering and topic modelling, conduct sentiment analysis, evaluate document classification models, and apply these insights to social media data. The course includes a grounding in Quanteda, an online library developed by Professor Benoit for deconstructing textual data. You’ll engage with relevant case studies and real-world data sets over eight weeks online, enhancing your ability to extract business-critical insights from textual data in your organisation.
This course is technical in nature and makes use of coding in R. Some algebraic and calculus knowledge is strongly advised, but is not required. Training in tertiary-level statistics and knowledge of a functional or object-orientated language are also advantageous. HTML is not considered a programming language in this context.
Is this course for you?
This online certificate course is designed for individuals with a background in data or analytics and focuses on using the R programming language. It provides valuable skills and insights that apply to various industries and sectors. Data science and analytics professionals, such as data analysts, software engineers, application developers, and computer scientists, will benefit from gaining a deeper understanding of text mining, validating their skills in R, and staying up to date with the latest innovations in the field. Business, systems, and research analysts who work with reviews, transcripts, reports, articles, and social media data can improve the accuracy and efficiency of their data analysis, while IT technicians and systems analysts can expand their ability to work with large volumes of organisational data. Data-driven managers in marketing, sales, operations, and project management can also better understand text analysis and its benefits.
This Data Science: Text Analysis Using R online certificate course is certified by the United Kingdom CPD Certification Service, and may be applicable to individuals who are members of, or are associated with, UK-based professional bodies. The course has an estimated 70 hours of learning.
Note: should you wish to claim CPD activity, the onus is on you. The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and GetSmarter accept no responsibility, and cannot be held responsible, for the claiming or validation of hours or points.
